Theme: Tragedy of War
WWII caused much mayhem and destruction of Europe and the countries whom fought in it. The Jewish population was nearly extinct in the war. Education and the economy fell. But The Book Thief outlines all of this. Liesel felt as if the war had been too much, and longed education. Learning to read and write was a part of education many Jews did not get the chance for, or anyone living in or near the battlefield.
