BREAKING NEWS !
Daniel Walker's travel team has proved the odds wrong and became victorious ! Over the past month at camp Right Way these young skilled athletes have been perfecting their skills. They were getting prepared  for the camp tourney.

His team started out a little rocky.  His team wasn't very gelled together. Some of the players didn't get along. There was a lot of tension on the team. Even the coach seemed to not get along with some of the players. Danny in particular.

                                       Editorial

Post title...When life happens

when life happens
Surrounded in beauty, serene and the light of the world. Enjoying the piece piece of cake of life where you are the household name worth to be associated too, attracting different kind of people you never dreamed off all you know is they want to sip into your cup of life.
your life soft as the fresh rose petals, beautiful as clear crystals. The chuckles of laughter of family and friends running as water. A life your unknown neighbour dreams off a novel being read by the guy in the streets.

Suddenly life happens, what seems to be is now not, the bright world turned into gross darkness, and drowning in your floods of tears, tears of shame. The once envied life been incorporated with unforeseen pages, pages not prepared for.

The pain of it being like a persistent hiccup. All you want to do is to close your eyes never wanting to open them. Your face covered in your own hands, associated in a dark room, no lights, curtains closed all wanting to be alone.

Everyone has drifted away from you, all those names vanished into thin air, their back-biting so loud in your ears like traffic. A few to none standing by you.

Your voice can no longer be heard, your opinion no longer matter. Pain is all you find, your heart now broken pieces, emotions smashed and stepped on, dignity and respect lost, identity like vapor in the sight of others, all because life has happened!!!!

many people start life successfully but then suddenly it crumbles, but the question is what do you do when life happens? e.g. when a marriage fails, loose your own job, loose a breadwinner, business crumbles, a loved one dies. What do you do?

Do you shut yourself out and drown in your own tears, like the common adage "First you do not succeed dust yourself up and try again".

Life is for those with a spine, a strong back-bone. Crying is allowed but we do not cry forever, take control of your life by doing what is called "sitting on the table" this is whereby you are allowing yourself to be in control once more, no more pain, grief, sorrow, shame e.t.c.

Allow yourself to sit on the table and confront your situation and deal with it. A positive word and attitude goes  a long way, it is enough acid to eat away stagnancy and un-productiveness, encourage yourself, pray, seek counsel, find yourself at least one\two people you can trust and who can help you through this walk. We all need someone. The world cannot be conquered by one person, the 2 of you are an enough army to fight and win your battle.

Be aggressive towards life, never live your seat on the table come what may.

I repeat encourage yourself always with a positive word. Troubles might come but they do not last. You were born to conquer, so do not deprive yourself of your purpose, fill the void creation awaits for you, you are the statement they await to endorse.

Pain is a feeling that can be done away with and restoration is an action implemented to stay. Restore yourself for the better, the world misses your smile.

Red Ribbon Week
Thank you sharks for participating in Red Ribbon Spirit Week that started on the 27th of October.

On Monday we wore crazy socks to say, “Sock it to drugs.” I think this was very successful because we are saying something big, by wearing something simple; crazy socks.

On Tuesday we wore super hero clothes to say that we are heroes, not zeros. This was a fun way to say no to drugs, so I think it was a big success.

On Wednesday we wore red to represent red ribbon week. It was a huge success because it was an easy thing to participate.

On Thursday we wore our Halloween costumes to represent the up coming holiday. People that participated earned an Own It stamp.

The next time we do Red Ribbon Week, I believe it will be a huge success!!

Colors for Cancer
Thank you to all the sharks that participated in Colors for Cancer Spirit Week that took place on the week of October 20th. In case you don’t remember, we wore different colors that symbolized a different type of cancer each day.  In addition, we collected coloring books, crayons, colored pencils, etc from you to give to children currently diagnosed with cancer.  Thank you NJHS and Best Buddies for working with us to do this!

Monday – Orange for Leukemia
Tuesday – White for Lung Cancer
Wednesday – Pink for Breast Cancer
Thursday – Yellow for Childhood Cancer
Friday – Purple for all types of cancer

This was a huge success of the students at our school thanks to the students who participated in the spirit week. I hope we can do this again next year.

At the end of each school year the 8th grader class takes a trip to one of the following: Magic Mountian, Disneyland, or Knotts Berry Farm. We took a vote and Magic Mountain won for this year! Even though the trip is a while away, you have to keep in mind that your behavior matters. So, kids with any problems with deans or getting in trouble cannot attend this trip. There will be more information towards the end of the year.
The haunted house was a blast, and we hope everybody liked it. We reached our goal and we received a lot of money, but we wouldn’t have done any of it without our fellow students. Next year we are hoping that everybody will enjoy it and will participate in it so that we can get even more money and get a bigger haunted house so everybody will be more frightened and have more fun.

The Halloween dance was so much fun for us and we hope our fellow students had fun too. We gained a lot of money from the students. We can make the dance even better next year with more décor and more food and raise even more money. Thank you to the students participating in the dance and we hope that we can make it more fun for you guys to enjoy.

Imagine taking a test in school and then you suddenly forget everything you studied for. Was it that you multiplied first or that you do it last? Or maybe you are looking at this picture when you were 10 and you don’t even remember what happened that day. In fact, you don’t even remember any memories from when you were 10. Who is that guy standing next to you? Oh yeah, its your uncle. Imagine not even being able to neither chew your food without assistance nor be able to go outside and hang out with your friends because of how vulnerable you are to severe illnesses and infections. Well, unfortunately that’s what Alzheimer’s is like.
This disease has been around for some time and people have seen their loved ones pass from this. Gratefully a website has helped caregivers know what to do when caring for an Alzheimer’s patient. The Alzheimer’s Association is the largest non profit organization that willingly provides research, support, and Alzheimer’s care. They provide helplines in 170 languages, clinic trials, and caregivers. Recently, Alzheimer’s association had their traditional event, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s

The Canned Food Drive here at Silvestri is kicking off! It begins on Monday, December 1st and ends December 12th.  Please bring in canned foods to your homeroom throughout these two weeks. NJHS will be collecting the cans on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Student Council will also be collecting cans on Mondays and Fridays. These cans will be donated to the Three Square Program. This program helps feed those who are unable to provide food for themselves. These cans will also help provide holiday meals to those who cannot afford a meal for themselves and their family. We ask you Sharks to help out and bring in canned foods. In addition the homeroom with the most cans collected will win a pizza party!

Joe Klecker and Joey Duerr

Posted | Views: 2,199
The next runner that has potential to do great things this year is Joe Klecker of Hopkins. After being hurt last cross country season and not able to run in the state meet, Joe’s looking for a redemption year. Missing his junior year could set him back quite a ways though. But with his determination and his third place finish at the state meet in 2012, he will come back stronger than ever. Joe Klecker looks to have a good team this year that could make it to state for the first time in a long time. With that competition helping to push him, he’ll be able to be very close to Connor Olson. He might even beat Connor in some meets this year but probably not the state meet. According to milesplit, Joe ran a 15:24 has a sophomore and didn’t get a chance to top that his junior year. He was the fastest sophomore in 2012. He has lots of talent and has lots of anger built up for missing his junior year.
A younger contender that is a bit inconsistent, but still seems to show up in the big races is Joey Duerr of Chaska. He has a tendency to end up injured during the season, but somehow runs at the state meet. The runner does show up in big races though. According to milesplit Joey ran a 15:57 his freshman year at state finishing eighth. During Duerr’s sophomore year he ended up sixth running a 15:32. During Joey’s junior year he actually was hurt and wasn’t able to participate at the end of the year. Each one of these years he ended up hurt at some point during the season. Joey ends up putting to many miles on and ends up having to take some weeks of to rest. It’s not a very good thing to take those weeks off in the middle of training, but he does dominate at the state meet. Other than the state meet though you usually don’t see him running any crazy fast times or winning many races. If he would cut down on the miles some he would have a breakout season and run great all season long. Like Joe Klecker, he will also have a lot to prove his senior year after missing his senior year. Look out for a battle for second place between a good consistent runner in Joe Klecker and a very inconsistent runner in Joey Duerr that always runs his best at the state meets.

Connor Olson

“Well folks, looks like Connor Olson will have to wait until next year for his chance at the state title.” That’s what you heard when Obsa Ali beat out Connor Olson for the state title last year. Fortunately, Connor Olson had one more year left to capture the title. He isn’t the only runner looking for a state title this year though. Some other runners that will be competing for the state title will be Shane Striech, Joe Klecker, and Joey Duerr. All of which can achieve this goal.      The runner that has the best odds to win in the Class AA race would be Connor Olson. He’s from a strong Wayzata team that is ranked number one going into this season as a team. They have six of their seven guys back from last year. According to Wayzata’s Cross Country page, Connor was the lone junior in the top five at state last year. He placed second at the state meet last year five seconds in front of third place and two seconds behind first. He ran a 15:17 last year at the state meet. That is under 5 minute mile pace. He was on a whole different level then everyone else last year. This should carry over into this year and he shouldn’t be touched at all. Connor has the fastest returning time this year by more than fifteen seconds. He might have a couple of days here and there, but overall Connor should be a high up contender that shouldn’t have any trouble getting his state title this year. As long as he works hard and eats right over the off season, which shouldn’t be hard for him because some of his biggest competition is on his own team (Middle School Results: Minnetonka (9/16) &Eden Prairie (9/11)).

The unpredictability, talent of teams, hype, and tradition is what makes the college basketball season and March Madness what it is today. Traditions can come in all shapes, sizes, and seriousness. At the University of Duke one tradition throughout the basketball season is for students to tent outside Cameron Indoor Stadium on home games in hope to get free tickets and good student section seats for next day’s game. This tradition is called “Krzyzewskiville”. Named after Duke’s legendary basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski, thousands of students participate in this tradition. If you have ever watched or seen a Duke Basketball home game, you would know just how loud and obnoxious Duke’s student section is. In fact, Duke’s student section has been deemed the name “Cameron Crazies”. Krzyzewskiville actually has its own website with its own rules on how this tradition gets played out. Also being the crazy tradition it is, there is even a book written by Aaron Dinin called The Krzyzewskiville Tales (University of Duke, Krzyzewskiville Policy).
Another tradition of college basketball is Taylor University’s Silent Night game. Though not being known as a power-house-like college when it comes to basketball, Taylor University defiantly does not lack tradition. During the beginning of the game the stadium is dead silent, not a peep from anyone, until the tenth point is scored by the Taylor Trojans. Until the tenth point is scored, there is an incredibly awkward silence in the stadium. But after the tenth point is scored, the student section (dressed in costumes and pajamas) and other fans go absolutely nuts (Taylor University, Silent Night). Though not as serious as Krzyzewskiville, the Silent Night game is a hysterical way of getting the fans and the student section unpredictably into the game.

The past winners of the NCAA Men’s Division One College Basketball Championship and it’s contenders have been revolving around certain power house colleges in basketball such as: Duke, Kentucky, Louisville, Connecticut, Kansas, Florida, Ohio State, Michigan State, UCLA, North Carolina, Arizona, and many more. But what is awesome about college basketball and March Madness is the fact that there is a whole season and a 68 team tournament to prove each team’s worth.
Last year Wichita State (a college with little basketball recognition) was a number one seed in the Midwest region, though losing to Kentucky second around (eventual runner up to the Naismith), Wichita State had a perfect record of 34 and 0 before losing to Kentucky. In 2013 Florida Gulf Coast was a 15 seeded team in the South region, and went all the way to the Sweet 16. Along the way they defeated Georgetown and SDSU, on paper those games should have been predicted loses (Sporting News, NCAA 2013 Bracket). In 2010 and in 2011 Butler was runner up to the Naismith both years. In 2010 Butler came so close to victory in which Butler’s Gordon Hayward missed a half-court shot to almost seal the deal against Duke (ESPN, NCAA Tournament Bracket).
