California Coffee Coolness for Maple Ridge Home Buyers

Posted 2011-07-09 06:27:07 | Views: 1,690

A little California coffee coolness is coming to the Remax Results Realty office in Maple Ridge.  Is it a realty office that's also a cafe, or a cafe that's also a realty office?  You decide.  Sip a latte while viewing what could become your dream home on the big screen in a cozy (non-sterile, non-office) atmosphere.  They're still in the midst of renovations but the drywalling has just been done and it will be exciting to see what unfolds. Thanks to realtor Tommy T for "painting a picture" of the near-future look.

VanCityBuzz has posted a snippet from FoxSportsWest: Californian and 2011 "hockey fan" Miss USA's favourite team is the Vancouver Canucks.

I'm not convinced that she's really a Canucks fan.  She fails to mention a single player and her technical take on the game in general is:

"You’re never sure where (the puck) is going to go. It happens so fast."

Decide for yourself from this exceprt:

FOXSportsWest.com: How did you discover hockey?

Miss USA: It happened this season when I was in Vancouver and went to see a Canucks game. I didn’t know anything about hockey prior to that, and I went to a game and fell in love with the energy and the sportsmanship of the players. It was just insane, so ever since then I’ve been a diehard Vancouver Canucks fan.

FOXSportsWest.com: You must have been upset when they lost the Stanley Cup.

Miss USA: It was disappointing because they were so close. It was only one more game. But to me, I was thinking that they got the President’s Trophy this year and made it to the Stanley Cup finals. There’s always next year.

FOXSportsWest.com: What attracts you to the sport?

Miss USA: I love the speed. I love how you’re always on your toes when you’re watching a hockey game because you’re never sure where (the puck) is going to go. It happens so fast.

FOXSportsWest.com: Favorite player?

Miss USA: I don’t have a favorite player, but I do like watching the Sedins score. I think I like Henrik, but I don’t exactly have a particular favorite.

FOXSportsWest.com: Cutest player?

Miss USA: I don’t really look at the players that much. I’m really into the sport itself.

Mandatory flashing lights for small businesses?

Posted 2011-06-05 16:15:53 | Views: 1,893

If you're running for the mayor's chair, calling for mandatory flashinglights for small businesses is a bit 'over the top."

However, if you've ever had a fight with your municipality or strata over signage, you might actually agree with this fellow business owner-- even if you find the rest of his platform totally kooky.

Small and medium-sized businesses just want to be seen, no?  I can help you get seen without the need for flashing lights or gorilla suits.  Call me.

Vancouver sun warning

Posted 2011-06-04 08:16:51 | Views: 1,729

It's sunny in Vancouver but do not look directly into the sun.  We need to be reminded of this because we see it so seldom see it.  Also, ask your druggist about something called sunscreen.  This has been a public service message by another fairweather (sunny weather) Canucks fan.

Forecast:  Sky to turn "Canucks blue" tonight.

Quotables from Marshall Johnson:

This town ain't big enough for the both of me.

My "can-u-hear-me-now?" i-phone app works great! Breadmaker app in development.

Posted 2011-06-04 04:55:45 | Views: 1,890

Mobile phone technology has wowed us with its many wonders. Mine serves as my appointment calendar, calculator and file folder.  There are "apps" that will allow your phone to do everything except bake bread.  (I understand they're still working on that one.) Problem" they've failed us in doing what mobile phones were initially intended to do.  That is, make and receive phone calls.

My suburban neighbourhood is full of basement suites.  Combine basement suites with cell phones and "Houston (aka Telus, Bell, Rogers, Fido, Wind), we have a problem."  There is little or no cell phone signal, at least enough of a signal to send and receive actual voice calls.

We can still download our favourite apps, text, surf the web on our fancy, schmancy "smart phones."  But when we want to have an old-fashioned voice conversation we must ascend from our bunkers, to find a spot to converse: the lawn, the sidewalk, the driveway, the middle of the road. (Those old-fashioned voice conversations are still better left to those old-fashioned landlines that many of us, maybe prematurely, have given up.)

At peak times, the whole neighbourhood becomes kind of an outdoor "party line."  And we seem to take it all in stride.  (Well, more of a zig-zag football-type move, actually.)  Those who have parked their cars in spots with a good signal can even grab a little privacy.  (But it's going to be a long, hot summer.)

Ain't technology wonderful?  "Houston (aka Telus, Bell, Rogers, Fido, Wind), can you hear me now?

My i-phone takes pretty good photos, no? (Semiahmoo Bay, looking North to White Rock)

Sometimes it even makes and takes calls!

Maximize Your Google Power

Posted 2011-05-12 08:58:40 | Views: 1,582

Maximize your "google power" AND INTERNET PRESENCE

Make sure your Google Places Page is

completely optimized.  It's easy and

100 percent free.

In case you're wondering, "Google Places" is the local map page that usually appears on results page of Google business searches.

You may have already claimed your page, or you might not know what I'm talking about - but these 10 steps will help your business get found more easily.  Google evaluates your Places page as well as your website when determining who's on page 1, and in what order you show up.

If you are completely unfamiliar with Google Places, Google has a great tourthat will help familiarize yourself before getting through the rest of our steps.

1.  Make sure you have a Google "Places" page. Go to maps.google.comand type in your business name and city.  If Google has created a page for you, or you have already set up your page, there will be a "More Info" link beside your business.  Click it to access your page, then click on the "business owner?" link to edit.  If your business doesn't appear, go to http://www.google.com/places and log in or create an account to set up your page.

2.  Go through each section of your Places page setup and make sure you provide complete information.  Make sure your business name and address exactly matches other online listings (like Canpages), because Google will automatically bring in your content (like videos and photos) from Canpages and other directories.  Fill in as many categories as you can and write a keyword-rich description.

3.  Add all the photos and videos you have.  Google will allow up to 10.  Tip:  To make sure your logo shows up properly, add it as the last photo.

4.  Have a website.  To rank highly, you must have a business website!  Google will drop your listing to a low position without one, no matter what else you do.  Canpages will build you a fully optimized expertly-built website with no setup fee, hosting and monthly updates included, to get you found and ranked higher on Google.  If you don't have a website, contact me now!  We can get you up and running and help you with every step of your set up.

5.  Have optimized content on Canpages.ca, the top local search site in Canada.   Don't just take my word for it.  Google a number of business products and services and add your locality.  (Example:

"boat repair in langley bc.")  Time and time again, Canpages places at or near the top of local Google, Bing and Yahoo searches.  The is because of our rich content, especially video content and constant updates, which search engines love, and because of our extreme local traffic and hyper-local content.

6.  Add Additional Details.  These will help you as powerful keywords associated with your page.

7.  Verify your business listing. You can verify your listing by phone or by postcard. Google will call the phone number on the listing and provide a PIN number to enter for verification purposes. The process should take less than 5 minutes.

8.  Your page is complete!  Now what?  Keep up to date with Place Page Posts - One fun feature that you find here is the ability for business owners to post to the Place Page. Place Page posts allow business owners to give Google Maps users recent updates about your their business. These concise posts are a great way to share information with customers quickly.

9.  Add Coupons Business owners who have verified their business listing in Google Places can offer coupons on the Place Page for their business. Users can either print these coupons or use a mobile coupon.  If you're a business owner, the coupon tool is a great resource. By adding more than just the basic elements, you invite customers to interact with your listing. As a result, you may find that more customers are compelled to write a review or share the listing with a friend.

10.  Get Reviews - Reviews come from two main sources:  directories and social sites across the web like Canpages.ca and Gigpark.com, and reviews written by Google Maps users. When the information on a third-party website matches the information for a particular listing, Google associates third-party reviews with business listings. The more reviews you have, the better Google will like your business!

A properly optimized and managed Google Places page will set your business up

to be found easily online, and provide a great conversion from browsers to

customers.

Premium Position Ads.  Maximum Exposure!

Graham's Blog...

Each of our local directories contains premium positions for advertising.  It puts your business in the most prominent place in the directory.

Most directory ads are "directive", that is, they are placed at the point of decision, when the consumer is ready to buy.  Premium position ads are of the "creative" variety, like radio, TV and billboard ads, capturing the interest of people as they "drive by."

A creative ad placed in a prominent place in the phone directory has the added benefit of catching local consumers as they drive TO BUY!

Premium positionss include Front Page "button" ads, spine, Full Back Cover, Inside Front and Inside Back Covers, and Inserts (Blow Ins).  Call 778-686-0791 now and secure a premium position in your local print directory.

"With my new business, I decided to take the opportunity to advertise with Canpages. This decision paid off in the first year that Canpages published in the Greater Vancouver area; I was able to pay off my advertising in just 5 weeks!
From that point on, I continued to increase my advertising size to position myself ahead of my competitors, and, recently, grew my business by buying a second truck.... As a result in the increase of my business, the causes I support have also benefitted - the Charity Car Program
which I participate in will benefit greatly, as will many of the other causes I support such as MADD, BC Children’s Hospital, BC Cancer Foundation, Orphans Fund and Make a Wish Canada, just to name a few. I am very grateful to Canpages for helping make this all possible."

Improve Your Web Presence:

My 5 Free Tips

  1. Update and Optimize your Website
  • Include content such as videos, photos, Facebook, Twitter & YouTube links.
  • Look "under the hood" at the coding for your site. Is your website missing keywords, business description, links, metatags and other vital information for indexing and ranking on Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines?
  • Is your website optimized for mobile phones?  If not, you are missing out on 51% of potential business. That's the percentage of website visitors who are more likely to do business with a company that has a mobile website.
  1. Claim your Google Places Listing
  • Businesses that have claimed their listing can log in with their Email and Password
  • If you want to Claim / Add a listing simply click on the Sign Up Now link and complete the required information to Create an Account and click I Accept
  • Maximize your Google power by clicking this link. Very few local businesses have taken full advantage of this!
  1. Claim your Local online directory listings.
  • If you have already claimed your listing, log in with your User ID and Password

  • You are automatically put into the claiming your listing process, there are 4 steps to complete, press continue to move to the next step
  • The final step will require entering a PIN number supplied by a Canpages.ca automated attendant. You contacted by phone at the number on your Canpages.ca business listing

  • Tell a Friend is an option that allows you to email your business listing to a friend, you do not need to log in for this

Good online marketing is all about Return on Investment.   A website that looks beautiful quickly loses value unless it becomes an online tool to generate business.

Similarly, a Google marketing campaign loses value if it is not properly managed by experienced experts.  Do-it-yourself online marketing can come at the high cost of taking you away from what you do best: managing your business.

The purpose of all marketing is to drive traffic to your business.  Whether or not new business comes through your website, the important thing is that it finds you. My job at is to help make sure it does.

Know your demographic.  Typically, most business' customers are in the transitional period.  That is, they use both online and print directories when searching for a local product or service.

Generation Y  15-24
Generation X   25-34
   Search preference: Internet

Young Boomers 35-44
Older Boomers 45-54

Empty Nesters 55-64
Retired 65+
   27% of spending power
   Search preference: print focused
