first wave feminism

the first wave of feminism started in america in july 1848. first wave feminists were focused on women's suffrage including property rights and women's right to vote, a privilege that only white males had.

second wave feminism

the second wave of feminism then broadened into new women's issues such as rape, abuse, sexuality, family, the workplace, reproductive rights, de facto inequalities, and official legal inequalities. Although the

Equal Pay Act of 1963 was enacted during this wave, women today still earn 77 cents to a man's $1.

third wave feminism

third wave feminism started as a response to perceived failures of second wave feminism. third Wave feminists focused on ideas like abolishing gender role expectations and stereotypes, defending sex work, pornography, reproductive rights, and sex-positivity. the underground feminist punk movement "riot grrrl" is associated with third wave feminsm.
