Did you hear about the C.A.S girls basketball team? They are amazing! They are blowing minds! Their season was fantastic, they made it to the playoffs. They have the best sportsmanship the courts have ever seen. Due to the whole team and coaches the team has achieved so much.

Even though the girls had a fantastic season all fun must come to an end. The fun ended when the girls basketball team lost their playoff game to P.S 180.  It was so sad for them to make it that far and not go to the semi finals. Much of the team success can be attributed to Coach McLaughlin.

Destiny Carter, girls C.A.S basketball captain, recently caught up with Coach McLaughlin to ask her some questions about basketball and coaching the girls C.A.S team.

DESTINY: How did you feel about coaching the C.A.S girls basketball team?

COACH: Good, this year was better than last year.

DESTINY: Why did you decide to coach the C.A.S girls team?

COACH: I personally  love basketball. I think it’s good to have a team [at the school] and the girls team needed a coach because the previous coach went to coach the boys basketball team.

DESTINY: Did the whole team show hard work?

The Action Thats Going On With Community Action Girls Basketball Team

COACH: No, some people thought they weren’t good enough to play on the team [so they gave up or didn’t show hard work] and some people thought they were too good to show hard work.

DESTINY: How do you feel about the seniors leaving? How do you feel it will impact next

season’s team?

COACH: I’m very sad because the seniors have been here since I have been here. I think it’s going to [impact the team because it will] make the younger girls step up.

DESTINY: Do you think some of the girls that are seniors improved since they were freshmen?

COACH: Yes, a lot of people have gotten better! Destiny, you have gotten better. Akilah, Zaniya and Shenee have all gotten better since sixth grade.

DESTINY: Do you think the 2011-2012 team showed the same kind of spirit as the team in 2012-2013?

COACH: No, because they [the 2011-2012 team] weren’t committed. They didn’t have a strong group of 8th graders to lead them like the 2012-2013 team.

DESTINY:How many games did the team win? How many games did the team lose this season?

COACH:They won seven games and lost three games; to me that was a great season!

DESTINY: Do you want to take your coaching further; for example coaching outside of school ?

COACH: I’ve coach outside of school before, but I don’t feel I need to do it necessarily.

DESTINY: What made you get up one day and say, “I would like to play the sport basketball”?

COACH:  I never really decided to play but since my sister use to play and my father always watched my sister play I wanted to play.

DESTINY: What are your hopes for next  season?

COACH: To have a committed team and to make it to the second round of the playoffs.

DESTINY: If you could have changed one thing this season what would you have changed ?

COACH: To have the six graders on the team to show them how it feels to be part of a team for three years.  Also to show [them] how it feels to win and lose games with your team.

After hearing what Coach McLaughlin has to say it's apparent that the C.A.S girls basketball team next season will have to try their best to win the championship to show the graduating seniors that they can hold down the team.
